The BAFTA nominated co-writer and star of Phoenix Nights is
back on the road, with a long-awaited live show, fresh for 2008.
A much-loved household name thanks to his inimitable performance as
compere without compare Jerry St Clair, Dave Spikey’s sell-out
live tours
‘Overnight Success’ (2003) and ‘Living The Dream’ (2005) earned rave
reviews from critics and crowds alike.
Now making a welcome return to live comedy, Mr.Spikey certainly
hasn’t been putting his feet up since he last toured. He’s been far to
busy clocking up appearances on Parkinson, entertaining Her
Majesty at The Royal Variety Performance, shouldering team
captain duties alongside fellow festival attendees Jimmy Carr and
Sean Lock in four hit series of Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats,
and filling the shoes of Bully legend Jim Bowen in the revival of
classic game show Bullseye. He also found the time to write and
co-star with Johnny Vegas in ITV’s critically acclaimed sit-com
Dead Man Weds and to write and co-star in BBC1’s Friday night
comedy-drama Magnolia.
In his brand new stage show, Dave tackles the old adage ‘Laughter is
the Best Medicine’. It was his dad’s favourite saying- which is why when
Dave was six, he nearly died from diphtheria.
In later years, working in the NHS as a Biomedical Scientist, Dave
discovered for himself that scientific evidence endorsed his dad’s wise
words and, although the jury’s still out on his ‘happiness is a dog with
a tin dick’, it has been proven that when we laugh, our bodies release a
cocktail of chemicals and hormones which reduce stress and blood
pressure, lift depression, boost the immune system and here’s the
clincher.... burn calories! So think of this as Dave’s small
contribution to improving the health of the nation. Come along, have a
laugh and you’ll shed at least 200 calories- and that’s a pint of lager!
