A one-man two-hander from the deadpan master of absurdist irony.
The world-weary stand-up, playwright and star of BBC’s Rich Hall’s
Cattle Drive will be joined by redneck alter ego Otis Lee
Crenshaw, released from the penitentiary for the second half.
Comedy’s premiere grouchy genius, Rich Hall quit his job as
hurricane namer for the United States Meteorological Service
eighteen years ago and hasn't looked back. Combining the mind of a
knife-sharp satirist with the demeanour of a Pearl Jam roadie, Rich
revels in his UK appearances, which give him the always-welcome
opportunity to lay into his homeland. In the States, he is well-known
and loved as an Emmy Award-winning writer and star of The David
Letterman Show, whilst his appearances on these shores have seen him
as consistently the hottest ticket on the Edinburgh Fringe and a guest
of choice for BBC shows such as Q.I, Never Mind The Buzzcocks
and Room 101.
1998 saw the emergence of Rich’s bourbon-swigging, red state bluesman
Otis Lee Crenshaw. Married seven times, each to a woman named
Brenda, the Tennessee jailbird plays booze-soaked Tom Waitsian tunes
inspired by growing up in a trailer trash family so poor blues singers
used to swing by when they had writers block. Otis has received an
ecstatic welcome everywhere from the Melbourne Comedy Festival to
London’s Comedy Store and recently released his debut book of hard
knocks Otis Lee Crenshaw: I Blame Society.
Rich and Otis together promises the perfect fusion of foot-stomping
tunes, heckler-decimating banter and thinking-person’s stand-up.
