It’s Enough To Make You Wish You Were Still At School…

There’s no need for anyone to miss out at this year’s Glasgow International Comedy Festival, thanks to our packed family programme that will get everyone from 3 to 103 giggling.

Glasgow’s only permanent year-round comedy club The Stand is opening its doors for a teatime Comedy Club 4 Kids. With all the atmosphere and unpredictability of a proper comedy club, big name guests will be dropping in do their best routines without the swearing or rude bits. Acts in the past have included Stewart Lee, Reginald D Hunter and Brendon Burns ,guaranteeing a different show each time. Perfect for over sixes and anyone who likes their comedy clean.

There will be tons more puns courtesy of the man who talks pants, Chucklevision writer Ian Billings, and the return of Phil Kay, whose joyous anarchy makes him a dream children’s entertainer. In What A Load Of Rubbish!, Phil will be asking kids of all ages to come armed with an object destined for the rubbish heap and brace themselves for forty eight minutes of silliness, daftness and imagination-ness.

And if this inspires your young ‘uns to pick up the mic, then they can hone their burgeoning stand-up talents at the Comedy Academy 4 Kids. Run by hugely popular children’s stand-up James Campbell, this is a unique opportunity for anyone who gets into trouble for being quicker than their teachers to tickle their friends’ and family’s funny bones. There’s more creative fun to be had at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre, with a chance to come along and make your own comical, pop-up creation. All materials will be provided, making it a great afternoon for kids aged 4+.

There’s an abundance of magical theatre and music courtesy of The Folding Theatre Company who bring David MacKee’s much loved fable Two Can Toucan vividly to life, plus Children’s Classic Concerts, who’ll be going on a wild exploration of the animal kingdom in this menagerie of magnificent melodies.

Rounding all this off, our good friends at the GFT have once again programmed a season of blockbuster comedy movies that are free for Young Scot and Kidz Card holders and an accompanying adult. The biggest cinema hits of the year are here- Homer, Bart and, of course, Spiderpig making their big screen debut in The Simpsons Movie (PG), Jerry Seinfeld voicing a discontented insect hero in Bee Movie (U) and Dustin Hoffman running the strangest toy shop in the world, Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (U).

Kids today! It’s alright for some…
