Des Clarke: Final Destiny

The man The Stage dubbed the comedic Kalashnikov, Des
Clarke presents a special finale performance of his acclaimed five
star show Destiny.
Des’ stuttering, freewheeling delivery would make a Ritalin-deprived
nine year old seem positively zen. Leaping from topic to topic, leaving
perfectly crafted punchlines and gleefully giddy crowds in his wake, Des
has been unstoppable since he first burst onto the comedy scene in 2001.
Reaching the finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards (and just pipped to
the title by Mr Alan Carr), Des soon settled into his title as
the young buck of Scottish stand-up.
Called upon to shoulder the not-at-all-terrifying responsibility of
taking over from Ant and Dec on ITV1’s SM:TV- the show
that made them household favourites- Des showcased his diverse talents
for sketches, monologues and celebrity-embarrassing and has been in huge
demand ever since.
He charmed the likes of Beyonce and Christina Aguilera
during his backstage interviews at the MTV Europe Music Awards, was a
regular on three series of the BBC’s Live Floor Show and gently
steered lovelorn Scots towards potential romance in STV’s cult post-pub
viewing Club Cupid.
A highly skilled presenter who handles primetime broadcasts with
ease, Des walked off with a prestigious British Radio Award- Presenter
of the Year for his Beat 106 morning show and has been the anchor for
the last three years of BBC Scotland’s Children In Need coverage.
Adding even more notches to his belt, Des writes a weekly celebrity
column for Scotland’s best-selling paper The Daily Record and has been
making his mark in punditry, with welcome appearances on the BBC’s
flagship football shows Sportscene and Offside.
As if this CV wasn’t impressive enough, by the age of 25 Des had
notched up live performances in every corner of the globe, from Dublin
to Dubai via Adelaide and New York, to say nothing of his solo runs at
three Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and capacity gigs at every Magners
Glasgow International Comedy Festival since 2004.
