Des McLean: Talkin’ Aboot
Tuesday 18 March
The Theatre Royal
8pm
£15.50/£12
Tickets: 0870 060 6647
When Peter Kay reckons he’s ‘the funniest and most original
comedian I’ve seen recently’, Billy Connolly is moved to declare
‘Des McLean-God, I love him!’ and The Fratellis survive
touring Tokyo by watching his comedy ‘over and over…haven’t laughed so
much’, it’s safe to say the Glasgow man is doing something right.
Des’s fans aren’t just the professionals. A festival institution
since 2003, Des’s shows have got bigger and better, as he packs out
larger and larger venues each year and the clamour for tickets gets
louder. Now Des is ready for the biggest gig of his career- a one night
stand at Glasgow’s prestigious Theatre Royal.
A legend to Clyde 1’s Breakfast With Bowie listeners, Des’s
8:10 sketches and wind-ups have been brightening the daily commute for
over a year. Des’s spot-on impressions have seen Rod Stewart
convinced he’s chatting to the Big Yin himself and Tommy Sheridan
asking Asda to help him take down his Solidarity posters. Gathering a
massive cult following, the recent compilation of Des’ best bits became
the fastest selling comedy CD in Scottish history and he contributed to
the team winning one of the hottest awards in broadcast media, the Sony
Award for Most Entertaining Radio Show (beating a certain Chris
Moyles). Des’ instant on-air popularity was duly rewarded with his
very own Clyde 1 Friday night solo show.
Des McLean’s only solo show of the festival promises to be a feelgood
night packed with the comedy gems his legions of fans have come to
expect.
