Luton’s laureate John Hegley comes to Glasgow with a night of songs, poems and joining-ins. Much of it new.

Dear Earwig, Oh, you jerky, shiny, long brown one. Gleamy, glidy little character. What a treat to see you. And what a runner. I love a bit of a chase, can’t wait to see you again. Hurrier! You’re always so welcome. Come on - creepiest of all creepy crawlies, I miss you.

Inspired by D.H Lawrence’s ode to a baby tortoise and remembrances of a father showing his son his first earwig, Letters To An Earwig is packed with animals in emotive situations and observations on insect and potato life.

John Hegley first came to the public attention in the 1980s when his songs about spectacles and the misery of human existence featured on John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 sessions. Since publishing Glad To Wear Glasses in 1990, John currently has nine books packed with unique verse, prose, drawings and potato photography to his name, plus two albums and one mug.

An Edinburgh Fringe and BBC Radio 4 regular, John has also appeared in Australia, Zanzibar and Canada. His most notable live appearance has been an engagement at a women's prison in Medellin, Columbia.

Letters To An Earwig is a joyful show for audiences new (but not newer than seven) and old.
